SUV driver strikes, kills woman crossing intersection in Blaine

A woman was killed after being struck by an SUV driver as she crossed an intersection in Blaine on Thursday.

Officers were called at approximately 6:33 p.m. to Hwy 47/University Avenue and 85th Street Northeast and found the injured woman, who was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.

Preliminary investigation indicates the 31-year-old man was driving a Toyota Highlander southbound on Hwy. 47 when he struck the woman as she crossed westbound at 85th St NE.

The woman has been identified by the Minnesota State Patrol as 47-year-old Lavonne Piipke, of Blaine.

No arrests have been made at this time, with the incident under investigation.
