Purchase student who yanked pro-Israel banner from admin's office sues over suspension
A SUNY Purchase sophomore who removed an administrator's "We Stand With Israel" banners from their office window sued the school last month, seeking to overturn his subsequent suspension. The student, Cesar Paul, alleges that the administrator, Paul Nicholson, attacked him after he removed the banners from Nicholson's window last year.
Yonkers My Brother's Keeper explores the 'masks' young men of color wear and project
Students at Roosevelt High School Early College Studies recently participated in a program called, “The Masks We Wear." The students first met to identify words associated with how they feel on the inside, and how they would like the world to see them on the outside. During the second part of the program, the young men made plaster masks of their own faces and wrote their words on the masks.

Peekskill City School District celebrates 100th year with alumni.
Peekskill City School District celebrated its 100th year with various centennial events throughout the school year, including alumni visits, reunions, and festivities. Mr. Andrew “Andy” H. Addoms, a graduate of Peekskill Military Academy in 1960, returned to his alma mater just before the end of the monumental year. Accompanied by friends Alyssa and Alan, Andy toured the administration building, reminiscing about his time at the academy and generously donating historical items to the District's collection.

The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) installed a community rain garden and held two interactive painting activities at Hackensack High School on June 1 at the Boost the Block Goes Green festival. “Hudson Link, and college education, is not just a gift for that student, changing his life. It’s a gift for the people who are going back to their families, back to their communities and back to the world we all live in,” says Sean Pica, executive director of Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison. Hudson Link provides college educations, reentry support and life skills to incarcerated people in six correctional facilities, including two in Westchester County – Sing Sing in Ossining, and Taconic in Bedford Hills. The organization currently works with 11 college partners, including Ivy Leaguers like Columbia University, and several local schools – Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, Vassar in Poughkeepsie, Mount Saint Mary in Newburgh, and St. Thomas Aquinas in Rockland County.
