Golf World Concerned About Charlie Woods on Monday

Charlie Woods, the son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, competed on Monday in the opening round of the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur at the historic Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Needing to finish in the top 64 of a 264-player field to advance to match play later this week, Woods, unfortunately, will need to post a stellar round on the more difficult South Course on Tuesday after firing a 12-over-par 82 earlier today.

    He currently sits T252.

Following Charlie's struggles to open the U.S. Junior Amateur, fans couldn't help but feel for the young golfer. Hundreds - if not thousands - of spectators following the group likely added to the stress and pressure that came with Monday's round.

"Rough day for Charlie Woods. Shot an 82 to finish 12-over. Maybe it’s the parent in me, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the pressure he must be under," WXYZ Detroit's Jeanna Trotman said on X. "Surely, his blessings outweigh his struggles, but got to be tough to have a bad round on this stage with that crowd."

It's difficult not to feel for Charlie, who earned a spot in the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur by winning a qualifying event in Florida earlier this year.

He carded five double-bogeys and four bogeys on Monday, recording just two birdies on the par-5 5th and 12th holes at Oakland Hills' North Course.

Charlie is currently set to resume action at the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur at 1:48 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

He'll open his second round on the back nine of the South Course at Oakland Hills.
