BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- It's been a very good summer for the Bloomfield High baseball team.

Led by head coach Mike Policastro, along with assistants Mike Carter Jr., and Liam Penberthy, Bloomfield took a 7-1-1 record into the final week of the season.

Bloomfield opened the season with a 10-10 tie against Passaic Valley. Since then, the team has defeated West Orange, 2-0, Bayonne, 7-4, Montclair, 11-10, and later, 14-1, Morristown, 10-8 and Lyndhurst, 8-4. The lone setback came to Bayonne.

"Our pitching has been pretty consistent all summer," said Policastro. "Our hitting has been sporadic, we are taking advantage of a lot of mistakes. A lot of guys are hitting. We make sure everyone who shows up for games, gets in and gets at least one at-bat."

Among the top pitchers has been Darious Rivas, who Policastro noted is pitching very well.

Three freshmen, Brady Cole, Conor Ennis and Miles Jimenez have all thrown well, according to Policastro.

"Offensively, sophomore Braeden Weber has hit well," the coach said. "Cole and Jack Menake have done a nice job for us, at the top of the order, followed by Weber and Kevin Obiedzinski.

"Senior Jack Lardner has also had some club RBIs for us."

Bloomfield was scheduled to play West Orange, on July 22, and concluded the season, on July 25, at Lyndhurst.

Statistically, Cole had six hits to lead the Bengals, along with six runs scored, five walks and three RBI. Menake, Larder and Weber all had five hits each and Rivas and Jimenez had four hits each.

Rivas had 20 strikeouts in 13 innings of work while Cole has fanned 10 in eight innings. Obiedzinski had struck out eight in five innings and had yet to allow an earned run.
