Wurtsboro Founders Day Street Fair draws large crowds (VIDEO)
WURTSBORO – The Founders Day Street Fair in Wurtsboro drew thousands of people who came to enjoy the vendors, live music, and fun-filled day in the community. For David Torres, one attendee, it was about the salted caramel popcorn. “I like the caramel and it’s fresh and hot because they just made it.”
Orange County to Purchase Maple Avenue Building
CHESTER – On Monday, July 9, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus officially signed the resolution, entering into an agreement to purchase the Maple Avenue Building located in the Village of Chester. The future of the building has been under consideration for some time, including a failed referendum in 2019 until on July 2nd, the Orange County Legislature moved the process of acquiring ownership along with a unanimous vote.

Port Jervis celebrates firefighters for over 160 years (VIDEO)
PORT JERVIS – Thousands lined along a newly revised parade route for Port Jervis Fire Department’s 166-year-old annual Inspection Day Parade on Saturday afternoon. This year’s route began at Port Jervis High School, went up Hamilton Street Hill, down Kingston Avenue, west on East Main Street, down Pike Street, and along Front Street and Jersey Avenue to Fowler Street, where it concluded.
OC students to get free admission to Storm King Art Center
Senator James Skoufis (D-42) recently announced that, thanks to a $50,000 grant, Storm King Art Center will allow all Orange County students up to 21 with valid ID free admission through 2024 and 2025. This includes admission to the grounds and access to public and family programming. Storm King Art Center is a 500-acre outdoor museum with large-scale sculptures set against the backdrop of Orange County’s landscape.
Monster Run Classic in Monticello set for August 4th
MONTICELLO – The Monticello Rotary Club 46th annual Monster Run Classic will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 4th at Resorts World Catskills in Monticello. The proceeds from the 2024 Monster Classic race will benefit the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition and is an event run by Monticello Rotary as part of Sullivan County Patriots Day. The race consists of 5K and 10K running and 5K walk events for the whole family. This course proves to be challenging and is considered by many one of the best run/walk courses in the area.
Friends of Hathorn to honor fallen Battle of Minisink soldiers
The annual ceremonies honoring Warwick’s fallen soldiers and veterans of the Minisink Battle take place July 20 and 22. The Friends of Hathorn invite the community to attend one, to remember our local founding veterans: July 20 at Minisink Battleground Park in Sullivan County at 4 p.m.; July 22 at 11 a.m., at the Minisink monument/gravesite in Goshen, opposite 101 Main St.; and July 22 at 6:30 p.m., at the Hathorn gravesite at Warwick Cemetery, featuring a group reading of Hathorn’s “Battle of Minisink” report.

Hunter Tier Proponents Criticize Mayor
It didn’t take long for Westhab/Washingtonville Housing Alliance (WHA) and their proponents to lash out at Mayor Sharon Torres’ statement she excerpted and read at the July 8, 2024 Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees (see HERE).
