    Falcons Nordic claims NWSC conference boys championship

    The Armstrong Nordic skiing team took on the Northwest Suburban Conference Nordic pursuit championships at Hyland Park in Bloomington last week, with the boys winning their conference championship while the girls placed eighth.

    Armstrong

    The Armstrong boys Nordic skiing team won the Northwest Suburban championship last week in a dominant fashion. The Falcons won with an overall score of 432. Blaine was next up in the standings with 418 points.

    Boden Sundell, Anders Decker, Samuel Majewski, Josh Sweeney, and Caidron Skerbitz all earned All-Conference honors.

    Sundell was Armstrong’s top overall finisher, coming in second in the individual standings with a skate time of 15:04 and a pursuit time of 28:43.

    Sundell was third and Decker fourth in the classic race with times of 13:38 and 13:43, respectively. Decker was fifth in the overall boys individual standings.

    Sweeney and Skerbitz teamed up for a first-place finish in the relay with a time of 17:12.

    The Armstrong girls Nordic team finished eighth in their portion of the championships with 316 points. Elk River won the girls title with 462 points.

    Champlin Park

    The Rebels combined for 373 points and fifth place at the boys conference meet. The girls placed fifth as well with a total points count of 368.

    Sam Keyes led Champlin Park’s performances in boys Nordic skiing with a 13th-place finish. Keyes had a classic time of 14:13.5 and a skate time of 16:24 for a pursuit time of 30:38 and 68 points.

    Abby Hibbs led the Rebels girls results with a fifth-place overall finish featuring a classic time of 16:56.9 and a skate time of 18:11.2 for a pursuit time of 35:08.2 and 76 points.

    Park Center

    Park Center placed eighth in the boys competition with 155 points.

    Reid Binsfield led the way for Park Center, finishing first in the overall individual boys standings with a classic time of 13:05.6 and a skate time of 15:02, and a pursuit final of 28:08 and a total of 80 points.

    The Park Center girls finished 11th overall with 164 points.

    Selah Binsfield also put together a big performance at the meet, finishing second in the overall girls standings with a classic time of 16:55.8 and a skate time of 17:09.0, for a pursuit time of 34:04.8 for 79 points.

    The Falcons will take part in the Section 6A six meet on Monday, Feb. 5 at Hyland Park in Bloomington, while the Pirates and Rebels will take part in the Section 5A on Feb. 7.
