A suspect was arrested after exchanging gunfire with Richfield police officers during a call in Bloomington early Friday morning.

The Bloomington Police Department said it was initially called to a report of a suicidal man at a residence on the 8700 block of 12th Avenue shortly after midnight, but its officers were occupied at the time responding to a burglary at a local jewelry store.

Richfield Police Department therefore took the call and shortly after arriving at the scene began exchanging gunfire with the suspect, who was described as a "male in crisis."

Bloomington’s Emergency Response Unit then responded to the scene, and negotiators began talking with the man over the phone.

At around 4 a.m., the man came out of the property and was arrested without further incident. He is a 36-year-old Bloomington man.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will investigate the shooting.
