‘Ton’ of Law Enforcement Gathered Near Loleta
This morning, starting around 6:45 a.m., locals reported spotting a convoy at the south 101 exit to College of the Redwoods north of Loleta. One reader said, “Convoy at the 101 exit that goes out south jetty. I don’t know what road is called. It’s 7 am right now.” According to one report, the gathering included “a TON of police at Hookton turnout,” with around “15 vehicles.” Another local agreed that there were about 15 vehicles. He described there being both unmarked and black and white with emblems.

34-Year-Old Eureka Resident Dead in Motorcycle Crash North of Redway
On June 29, 2024, at approximately 10:35 PM, Humboldt Communication Center (CHP Dispatch) received a 9-1-1 call of a crash involving a motorcycle on Redwood Drive, north of the community of Redway. Redway Volunteer Fire Department, City Ambulance, and CHP arrived on scene and provided life saving measures to the rider. The rider, Raul Villalobos, a 34-year-old Eureka resident, was transported to Jerold Phelps Medical Center in Garberville, CA, where he was pronounced deceased. Villalobos was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Crews Extinguish Large Vegetation Fire East of Arcata
On Tuesday, July 2 at 1:38 A.M., the Arcata Fire District was dispatched to a commercial vehicle fire on HWY 299 at exit 3A. The first arriving unit stated that it was not a vehicle on fire, but foam blocks covered in plastic on the side of the highway were heavily involved. The initial response only dispatched two engines and a duty officer, however additional resources were ordered immediately. Two water tenders were dispatched from Blue Lake Volunteer Fire and Fieldbrook Volunteer Fire as well as four additional engines from Humboldt Bay Fire, CalFire Trinidad, Westhaven Volunteer Fire and Kneeland Volunteer Fire as it appeared that the fire was spreading to nearby vegetation.
High-speed chase near Fortuna ends with wanted felon's arrest on multiple charges
FORTUNA, Calif. — A wanted felon was arrested in Fortuna on Sunday following a high-speed pursuit. The Fortuna Police Department (FPD) says that on Sunday, their officers initiated a pursuit on Rohnerville Road after an officer saw Daniel Fidler, a suspect wanted for multiple felonies, driving his red BMW.
