California police are warning locals and travelers about what they’re describing as a new form of pickpocketing. California police and authorities are even calling the new tactic the “Hug and Grab.” And it’s pretty much exactly what you think it sounds like.
North Coast Food Service Directors to Attend Farm to School Workshop
This summer, food service directors from across the North Coast region will come together for a transformative three-day workshop aimed at strengthening the bridge between local agriculture and school nutrition programs. Coordinated by Rumiano Cheese Company under the 2023 USDA AMS LFPP Grant, the North Coast Food Service Director Farm to School Workshop scheduled for July 16-18, 2024, promises a comprehensive educational experience. In partnership with Alice Waters Institute, North Coast Growers Association, California Cattle Council, California Beef Council, Humboldt County Office of Education, Humboldt County Farm Bureau, Western Organic Dairy Producers Alliance, Western United Dairies, Chef Ann Foundation and the California Department of Food Agriculture Farm to School Office this initiative aims to bring united resources to support the development of critical relationships to empower food service directors to procure nutritionally dense food from local North Coast farmers.

Humboldt Lines Up for Free Care
It's 6:30 a.m. on July 12 and more than 100 people are lined up below the Carson Mansion on Eureka's First Street, waiting for the Adorni Center to open at 7. Some are bundled in jackets, while others are draped in blankets. Many sit in lawn chairs they'd brought from home, prepared to wait, while others sit on the sidewalk or stand. Some play cards to pass the time, while others read books or stare at their devices, as others chat idly. All are waiting for dental, medical or vision care, most of it long deferred.
