According to some metrics, Oregon's roster is the best it's ever been and features the Heisman Trophy favorite in quarterback Dillon Gabriel along with some of the best skill talent in the country. SUMMER WEATHER RETURNS TO SOUTHERN OREGON
After some cooler temperatures and rain last week, summer weather has returned to the Umpqua Valley. Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the region will see at or above normal temperatures this week. Roseburg is expected to make it to the upper 80’s Monday before cooling to the low to mid 80’s Tuesday and Wednesday. The region is forecast to heat up between Thursday and Saturday. Highs in Roseburg are predicted to be in the low to mid 90s while Grants Pass and Medford are expected to reach near the triple digits. The region is forecast to cool slightly for Sunday and Labor Day.

CREWS CONITNUE WORKING ON SUPPRESSING UNCONTAINED FIRES/DIAMOND COMPLEX
Crews continue working on suppressing uncontained fires in the Diamond Complex, burning in the Umpqua National Forest. A UNF update said Saturday’s rain helped slow down the fires and look for ways to fight the fires directly. Crews have also started suppression repair which involves fixing and restoring areas that were impacted by fire-fighting activities. Additionally, an initial attack crew is ready to handle any new fires that might start from lightning.

South Coast Striders: Hike Bandon’s History
On Sunday, August 25, archaeologist and historian, Reg Pullen will lead a three-mile walking tour of Bandon, including Old Town and the beach near the South Jetty. Pullen will share all the local lore and colorful history of Bandon while touring various historical points of interest. Starting at the Museum, you’ll tour the waterfront and Old Town before heading to the beach. From the beach you can choose to walk down the beach on your own or return to town via the Jetty Road. The total hike is 3 miles, rated moderate, with some sand walking involved and should last 2.5 to 3 hours. You can shorten the walk by leaving it before the trip to the beach. After the hike you may want to visit the Bandon Historical Society Museum. Because this is on a Sunday, admission will be FREE, thanks to the “Free Summer Sundays” program sponsored by First Interstate Bank and Best Western Inn at Face Rock.
