A Missouri man won a huge jackpot after a traffic detour led him to stop and buy a lottery ticket.

The man said he had to take another route, due to a traffic detour . So, he decided to stop and buy a Lotto ticket, according to a July 1 news release from the Missouri Lottery.

“The bridge was out so I had to go the other way,” the winner told lottery officials.

The ticket, bought at the Price Chopper in Blue Springs, was for the June 15 drawing.

“The first time I ever played Lotto was last year,” he said. “So I just decided to stop by and went in, and that was that.”

While the man was making dinner the next day, he decided to check his ticket. That’s when he learned he won.

“I saw the 35 at the end and then I saw the 33 and I thought, ‘Oh boy, we’re on to something.’” he said.

The man matched all six winning numbers, leading to a $2 million jackpot. He had to split the winnings with another player who also matched all six numbers.

“It was just unbelievable,” he said. “I never would have gone in there if that bridge wasn’t closed.”
