Bluefield, Virginia and Bluefield, West Virginia are working together to make the anniversary the best it can be.

Events kick off on July 6, 2024 at Bluefield City Park with a 5K Race, Cruise In Car Show, Pet Show, food trucks, and vendors.

On July 8th, the historic Granada Theatre in Bluefield, WV will hold a screening of the movie “The Wedding Singer” to honor the past ceremony.

Felicia Holcomb, City Manager Administrative Assistant, gave a bit of background on the historic event.

“So, a hundred years ago Graham was, after a majority vote of 64 votes, Graham was called Bluefield, and to commemorate that event there was a wedding ceremony performed on July 12, 1924,” said Holcomb. “And it was on the state line with approximately fifteen thousand witnesses and even the governors of the two Virginias were there. So, a hundred years later, we now get to celebrate.”

The festivities will culminate in another wedding ceremony performed for the two towns where a wedding cake will be served to commemorate 100 years of two Bluefields.
