Poet Laureate of the Pee Dee
The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center will host an evening with Jo Angela Edwins, Poet Laureate of the Pee Dee and author of A Dangerous Heaven, on Saturday, July 13, at 5:00 p.m., at the Conroy Center (601 Bladen St., Beaufort). South Carolina adds freshmen walk-ons to official roster
The official roster on South Carolina's website was recently updated, and it includes the names of several freshmen, who have joined the team as walk-ons. A majority of the freshmen walk-ons are from the state of South Carolina, but the Gamecocks have added players from North Carolina, Virginia and Texas. All have reported to campus and are with the team for summer workouts.

When he was the governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter canoed the infamous Bull’s Sluice on the Chattooga River to draw attention to the Chattooga River, shared by Georgia and South Carolina. The year was 1974, the year the federal government recognized the Chattooga as an official wild and scenic river and gave it the protections it enjoys today. And, now 50 years later, a local conservation organization will celebrate the Chattooga as a Wild and Scenic River, and the public is invited to be part of the event. The group Stay Wild Chattooga Conservancy offers an evening of music, a farm-to-table dinner, along with a bar service from 6 to 10 Saturday night, August 3 at the Chattooga Belle Farm, Damascus Church Road, Long Creek.
