How the BMW M5 Weight Has Evolved Over Generations
The new BMW M5 G90 is setting a new benchmark for BMW, not only in terms of power, but also weight. Despite being the most powerful M5 ever made, and the first ever plug-in hybrid model, the G90 M5 is also the heaviest: 5,390 pounds (2,445 kilograms), marking a significant increase from its predecessors. Therefore, this raises a crucial question: Has the M5 sacrificed too much in the name of progress? In this article, we take a look at all the BMW M5 generations and how their weight changed over time.
BMW M5 G90 In Speed Yellow Filmed Up Close
BMW brought several M5s at the Goodwood Festival of Speed but it’s this G90 that stood out the most. Hoisted up on a building, the super sedan finished in a striking Speed Yellow paint made a splash at the show held in West Sussex. As you can imagine, we didn’t miss the opportunity to film the look-at-me version with its carbon fiber goodies. No, the roof didn’t cave because of the car’s weight.
2025 BMW M2 Build Your Own is Live on US Configurator
The 2025 BMW M2 coupe marches into its newest model year mostly unchanged but with some new paint options that make the configurator a lot of fun to play with. I assume I wasn’t the only one drooling at the prospect of a Thundernight Metallic M2 when the car launched, only to find that BMW decided not to offer that color on the smallest M coupe in production. Turns out it was worth the wait. The U.S. BMW M2 Build Your Own is live, and we get access to some very special colors at a steep discount from the usual BMW Individual upcharge. Check out the (albeit minor) changes with us.
Electric Wagon Duo: BMW i5 eDrive40 And i5 M60 Touring
BMW has been selling electric vehicles for over a decade, but it took this long to finally get a wagon. It was well worth the wait as the i5 Touring ticks all the right boxes, which you can then jam into the cavernous trunk. Whether you go for the eDrive40 or the hotter M60, the electric 5 Series estate can hold 570 liters with the rear seats in place. Fold the bench and the luggage capacity grows to 1,700 liters.
Electric MINI Countryman SE Poses At Brazilian Launch
The latest-generation MINI Countryman isn’t available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Instead, the BMW-owned marque finally offers a fully electric version. Actually, there are two flavors you can choose from. Aside from the base E model, there’s also a more potent SE. Featured here, it has dual motors and all-wheel drive, hence the ALL4 suffix in its name.

BMW Werk Leipzig Becomes the Official Partner of RB Leipzig Football Club
Back in May, we reported that RB Leipzig, the football club from the Red Bull empire, was rumored to embark on a new chapter with a new mobility partner: BMW. Today, that partnership officially begins. BMW, which has a plant in Leipzig, will now equip the professional team and club with electric cars from their MINI and BMW collections. The players will soon be driving the fully electric MINI Countryman, produced in Leipzig. In addition to partnerships with AC Milan, Real Madrid, and the basketball department of FC Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig will also rely on BMW as its official automobile partner in the future.
BMW 3 Series Touring vs. Audi A5 Avant: Photo Comparison
Audi just dropped a new wagon – the A5 Avant. While forbidden fruit for the US market, the longroof has close competition elsewhere. It contends with the new BMW 3 Series Touring, which received moderate updates alongside the rest of the model’s body styles for the 2023 model year. Since the Audi A5 is also officially replacing the A4, it’s going to have to be good – let’s see how the Avant stacks up against BMW’s workhorse 3 Series Touring.
Get To Know The BMW X3 M50 With This Walkaround Video
BMWBLOG was given the opportunity to shoot the new X3 at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend. BMW brought the “G45” in its most expensive flavor by displaying the M50. It replaces the M40i sold during the “G01” years and is the sole M Performance model. Yes, the M40d is dead, but a six-cylinder, non-M diesel is planned for 2025.
New BMW M5 Drops By The M Garage In Poland
Following its first public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, the new M5 has embarked on a world tour. Its first stop is in Poland where the BMW branch is showing off the G90 in Fire Red. It’s an eye-catching color marketed in the United States with a localized name: Vegas Red. This seventh-generation performance sedan gets the carbon fiber goodies available as optional equipment. We’re talking about the roof, side mirror caps, and the trunk lid spoiler.
BMW Testing Prototypes With In-Wheel Electric Motors
A couple of weeks ago, BMW took just about everyone by surprise when a mysterious prototype was caught by car paparazzi. It had a sleek coupe shape with obvious Neue Klasse design cues. Even more intriguing were the wheels because there were no visible brake calipers. That sparked speculation about the potential use of in-wheel hub motors.
BMW Concedes The M5 G90 Is ‘The Best We Could Do’
BMW has been under fire lately because of the new M5’s worryingly high curb weight. However, that was to be expected considering the 550e xDrive isn’t exactly a lightweight car either. With a bigger V8 instead of an inline-six, it’s not a shocker the super sedan tips the scales at 2,435 kilograms. The North American version weighs 5,390 pounds. Lest we forget the G90 is also a substantially larger car than the F90 before it.
No Next Generation BMW X3 M Planned
The new BMW X3 (G45) has finally arrived, prompting curiosity among customers, readers, and Instagram pundits about the next generation BMW X3 M. Although the “G97” internal codename circulated online and was considered the potential successor to the F97 X3 M, plans for a new model have been scrapped. Instead, BMW is focusing on introducing the first-ever electric iX3 M. For those who prefer a gasoline engine, the X3 M50 will lead the lineup, potentially offering increased power from the B58 engine.
EU Considers Reducing Import Tariffs on Chinese EVs for BMW
The European Commission has allegedly signaled to BMW and Volkswagen that it may consider lowering tariffs on the two carmakers’ imports of China-made electric vehicles, according to Reuters. The European Commission is willing to classify BMW as cooperating companies, which would make them eligible for a reduced tariff of 20.8% on their China-made models, down from the current planned tariff of 37.6%.
New MINI Cooper S With Gas Power Stars In Extended Gallery
The “F65” Cooper S premiered in early June but we’ve rarely had the chance to talk about the five-door body style since then. Thankfully, MINI is showing off the hot hatchback in fresh imagery of the Favoured Trim with the optional Multitone Roof. The nifty top fades from blue to white as it goes from front to rear.
2027 BMW X5 M60e And iX5 M70 Coming With Big Power
The X5 has been BMW’s cash cow ever since the E53 went on sale a quarter of a century ago. Come 2027, the fifth generation will usher in the first-ever electric version. Our sources close to Munich have learned about the company’s intention to roll out an iX5. The flavor without a combustion engine will share the “G65” codenamed with the conventionally powered models. Why? Because both will sit on the CLAR platform.
BMW M3 F80 Upgraded With HRE Wheels Looks The Business
It’s been several years since BMW discontinued the F80 M3 but the tuning scene is still showing its appreciation for the previous-generation sports sedan. This tastefully modded build has M4 GTS-styled taillights and a chunky rear wing replacing the trunk lid spoiler. You’ll also notice a subtle roof spoiler and M4 CS-like yellow daytime running lights.
BMW XM, M5 G90, Cullinan Series II Climb The Goodwood Hill
There of the heaviest and most powerful BMW Group cars tackled the Goodwood course over the weekend. The XM Label and M5 G90 were joined by the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II at the hill climb event held in West Sussex, UK. These three mastodonts are also some of the widest production vehicles out there. That means navigating through the narrow sections of the road was quite challenging.
Take A Closer Look At The BMW X3 M50
It’s safe to say the M5 G90 stole the X3 M50’s thunder at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. To make things right, we’re here to show love to the M Performance G45. BMWBLOG spent quality time with the hottest version of the fourth-generation luxury crossover and its fresh Dune Grey color. Flaunting quad exhaust tips, the new not-quite-M X3 looks the business.
Rediscovering Elegance: The Timeless BMW Garmisch at Goodwood FoS
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, held annually at the historic Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, is a celebration of motorsport and automotive excellence. The 2024 edition of this illustrious event also gave us another look at a remarkable classic: the BMW Garmisch. This concept car, originally designed in 1970 by the renowned Italian designer Marcello Gandini for Bertone, was meticulously recreated by BMW in 2019, honoring both its legacy and its visionary creator.
