An early morning fire broke out in the garage of a family home in Bock on Friday, July 5.

Damage from the fire likely resulted in the total loss of the home.

At approximately 2 a.m. the morning after the Fourth of July, the Milaca Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire south of Bock on 130th Street.

According to co-fire chief of the Milaca Fire Department Chris Ehlen, the fire started in the garage on the property and quickly spread to the second floor of the family home.

However, due to the fire, smoke, and water, the home will likely be a total loss for the owners.

“We did our best to knock it down, and Princeton came to help as mutual aid. Eventually we were able to go in and knock it down from the inside,” Ehlen said. “I’m pretty sure the house is a total loss, but I think they were able to save some of their belongings on the main level. When there’s that much damage it’s hard to come back from it.”

Despite the damage, no one in the home at the time of the fire was injured and all made it out of the home safely. Similarly, no pets were harmed in the fire, according to Ehlen.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation by the Minnesota Fire Marshal.

The Princeton Fire and Rescue Department assisted the Milaca Fire Department at the scene.
