One of the best running backs in the country is looking to make history in the 2024 season. Boise State star Ashton Jeanty set a high bar recently, going so far as to make a bet with teammate Mason Randolph about his goal. Can Jeanty make good on his bet?
Ashton Jeanty Bets Dreads on 2,000-Yard Rushing Total
Jeanty, the explosive junior who is among our top rushers in the 2025 NFL Draft , has become a key playmaker beyond Boise State and the Mountain West Conference. The 2023 MWC Offensive Player of the Year was fantastic when George Holani missed time with an injury, usurping the veteran into a starring role.
Now, after tallying 1,347 rushing yards, 569 receiving yards, and 19 total touchdowns in 2023, Jeanty is raising the bar for this fall. In what likely is his final collegiate season since he'll be draft-eligible for the first time next year, Jeanty is looking to break the 2,000-yard mark. It's not an especially exclusive list since 2000, but it's still only a select number in any given year.
Jeanty even bet that he would cut his dreads with offensive lineman and teammate Mason Randolph if he didn't reach the 2k total. He feels with less competition in the backfield and a more established role, the runway is clear for a massive season. It'd be hard to fault Boise State for riding him so hard.
Ashton Jeanty 2025 NFL Draft Outlook
There are some clear parallels between Ashton Jeanty and New Orleans Saints star Alvin Kamara. The 5-foot-10, 210-pounder is a reliable receiver, powerful but fast runner, and super efficient in his touches. It's hard to imagine he won't be successful in the NFL because of the way he fights through contact and shakes defenders off his frame.
Quick to accelerate, creative enough to utilize a variety of moves in the open field, and showing good field vision after the line of scrimmage, Jeanty can be an absolute star at the next level. He could see himself rise into the class' top two backs.
