Community comes together to rescue stray dog
LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A group of people in Lee County teamed up to help rescue a stray dog who needed medical attention. In May, a stray dog who was dubbed River started showing up around the Port Sanibel Marina in south Fort Myers, and he was surviving on scraps. Trapping experts Lori Briggs and Lori Berroa stepped in. They set up a camera and food, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. They saw the dog but struggled to capture him and began to get worried after also spotting a bobcat on the camera. After several attempts, they finally got River.
Lightning strike sparks 4-acre brush fire at Cape Coral's Charlotte Harbor Buffer Preserve
CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral firefighters battled a 4-acre brush fire at the Charlotte Harbor Buffer Preserve Saturday afternoon. According to the Cape Coral Fire Department, at around 1:40 p.m., crews responded to the scene off Burnt Store Road N., where the flames were reportedly caused by a lightning strike. Officials say the fire is 100% contained at this time.

Vicky Bakery to expand to Cape Coral
Vicky Bakery, a Miami-based Cuban bakery chain, has plans for a third Southwest Florida location. Mike Rivera, of Saggio Realty’s commercial brokerage division in Naples, completed a $750,000 sale of a 1.25-acre mixed-use site at 602 Del Prado Blvd. N. The development will be the future location of a 3,000-square-foot Vicky Bakery, along with 3,600 square feet of inline retail space for lease, Rivera said. Lane Boy of Cushman & Wakefield Commercial Property Southwest Florida represented the seller. Originally opened in 1972 in Miami by Antonio and Gelasia’s Cao, Vicky Bakery has more than 25 locations in the state, including one recently opened in Ave Maria and another opening soon in Fort Myers.
