Georgetown VFW Post wants to help create memorial for veteran who jumped from county bridge
GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WBTW) — The VFW Post 6444 in Georgetown says it wants to try and help a family whose son jumped off the L.H. Siau Memorial Bridge Sunday night. The veterans organization said it found out Shawn Lauver, 37, of Bolivia, North Carolina, served in the military and wants to work with the family and city to create a memorial. USACE Offers Oak Island, NC, Dredged Sand at Bargain Price
The Army Corp of Engineers offered Oak Island Town Council a deal last month that it couldn’t pass up. As part of its bi-annual dredging of the Wilmington Harbor Inner Ocean Bar, the Corps will have access to a lot of sand, something Oak Island can’t get enough of in recent years. That project is scheduled to go out for bid in September and Oak Island was presented an opportunity to purchase some of the sand for bargain prices.
