GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The body of a man who jumped from the L.H. Siau Memorial Bridge following a Sunday evening crash has been recovered.

The Georgetown County Coroner Office confirmed the man who jumped from the bridge is 37-year-old Shawn Timothy Lauver. Lauver is a native of Bolivia, North Carolina.

A driver, identified Lauver, involved in a crash in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 17 left his vehicle and was seen jumping from the east side of the bridge and trying to swim away, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews from multiple agencies had been out searching the Waccamaw River since Sunday evening when his body was recovered near the bridge Tuesday morning.

“Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office deployed marine and drone units throughout the day Monday during the search. The body was discovered by a drone unit from Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Rescue around 11:30 a.m. today,” the sheriff’s office said.

Search crews were working under a unified command in coordination with Georgetown County Emergency Management Director Brandon Ellis at the Coast Guard Station.
