    Public Health Alert issued after rabid bat found in West Virginia

    BOLT, W.Va. (WVNS) — The Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department has issued a Public Health Alert after the office was notified that a bat found in the Bolt area of Raleigh County tested positive for rabies.

    According to a notice from the health department, the WV Office of Lab Services sent the alert on Monday, Aug. 6, 2024.

    In the release, residents were reminded to not feed or pet stray bats or animals. Residents were also told to make sure all animal vaccinations are up to date and to avoid contact between their pets and stray animals.

    If anyone comes across an animal that is suspected of having rabies or their animal begins showing symptoms, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Local animal control should also be notified.
