Mercer-led program helps improve infant mortality rate and maternal health
A Mercer University School of Medicine-led program has received an additional $5.5 million grant to continue its work improving health outcomes for expectant and new parents and their babies. Under the direction of professor Dr. Jennifer Barkin since fall 2022, South Georgia Healthy Start has already demonstrated a significant impact.
SBA opens Business Recovery Center to assist GA counties
ATLANTA – The Small Business Administration opens a Business Recovery Center to assist 11 Georgia counties. Businesses affected by the water main breaks, which occurred from May 31 to June 6, 2024, in 11 Georgia counties, may now apply for low-interest Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA will open a Business Recovery Center (BRC) on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

Centerville Fire Department receives $47,000 grant
CENTERVILLE – The city of Centerville’s Public Service department received a $47,619.04 Assistance to Firefighters grant for new fire safety upgrades. The grant was awarded to the city by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The federal funds can be used for professional training, wellness and fitness programs, equipment, personal protective equipment and modifications to facilities, according to a press release from Senator Jon Ossoff’s office.

Warner Robins Police to host Women Firearms Safety Class
WARNER ROBINS – Warner Robins Police Department will host a gun safety class this August catered to the self-defense needs of women. The free Women’s Firearm Safety Class will have three sessions; attendance is required for each session. Sessions will be Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon.
‘Friday Night Tights’ brings community together for charity all-female flag football game
WARNER ROBINS — The lights were shining bright at Jesse E Tanner Memorial Park Friday as two teams battled it out in a night of fun and football for a good cause. On July 19, the Rainbow House Children’s Resource Center hosted “Friday Night Tights,” a charity fundraiser for the center.
