Emerald Downs: Arctic Breeze stuns in the Kent Stakes; Wright sweeps the Stakes; Krigger triples; Pick 5 pays 25K & Corgi’s!
(Auburn, WA) It was Corgi day at Emerald Dowms and the dogs, owners and fans showed up with another huge crowd on hand. The $50,000 Kent Stakes was also contested with a field of 11 going 6 1/2 furlongs. The track was fast and 56 starters for an average of 7 starters per race. Nearly 10,000 people were on hand to cheer on both the horses and Corgi’s. They were also in a betting mood wagering the 2nd highest handle of the season of $1,555,586 just shy of the $1,565,104 on June 16. This was an average of $194,448 per race and led to some season high pay-outs.

(Auburn, WA) 8 races on the card under a hot sun and clear skies on Saturday and the feature race was the $50,000 Irish Day Stakes that saw the field reduced to just 4 with a late scratch from Sir Argento. The 8 races had 52 starters for an average of 6.5 per race and a final handle of $958,150 for an average per race handle of $119,769.
Emerald Downs: Corgi Madness!
It was Corgi Championship day with more than 100 Corgi’s set to make their run on Sunday. Fields of 12 lined up for 5 qualifying heats after the 2nd thoroughbred race and then 4 more qualifying heats for a total of 9 were run after the 3rd race. The winners earned their way to the Championship heat with last year’s champion for a field of 10 and was run after the 5th race.

Rainiers Win Behind Offensive Outburst
ALBUQUERQUE, NM– The Tacoma Rainiers (51-41) scored 11 unanswered runs to beat the Albuquerque Isotopes (35-57) by a score of 13-5, Saturday at Isotopes Park. Luis Urias gave the Rainiers an early lead, clubbing a two-run home run in the first inning. Albuquerque also scored in the first with an RBI double from Elehuris Montero, making it 2-1. It stayed there until the third, when the Isotopes got four runs on one swing of the bat.
