DA rules on Kansas high school baseball animal cruelty case
SEDGWICK COUNTY —In April, USD 262 Valley Center suspended the schools baseball season due to an investigation of alleged animal cruelty after a chicken was killed on the baseball field at the high school before a game, according to the Valley Center Department of Public Safety. A school employee contacted a school resource officer about the incident.

Vista, CA— The Vista Irrigation District board of directors recognized Thomas McCarter as the district’s 2024 WaterSmart Landscape Contest winner at its meeting today. Mr. McCarter and his wife, Alice, moved into their current residence three years ago. Upon moving in, their yard was mostly a blank slate with a majority of the yard unplanted. Working together as a team, they began to transform their yard with Alice taking charge of the layout of their garden.
Oceanside dedicates new Fire Station 1
OCEANSIDE — A procession of pipes and drums paraded downtown in celebration of the city officially dedicating its new Fire Station 1 on July 15. Council puts sales tax on November ballot
Escondido City Council at its July 10 meeting voted 5-0 to put a citizen’s initiative on the November ballot that would increase local sales tax by 1 cent. It is an indication of how serious the council takes the city’s current dire fiscal crisis that two council members, Mayor Dane White and councilmember Mike Morasco—who both previously said they would never support a tax increase—voted to put this tax increase proposal on the ballot.
