Escondido family makes a film: “Don’t Get Eaten”
As a movie critic, I see all the films the studios release each week. Sometimes I’ll see gems at festivals that never see the light of day. When I heard about a couple who live in Escondido and wrote, starred, directed, and produced their own movie about a zombie attack…I rolled my eyes. But my wife loves zombies, so I checked it out. And we both loved it. This family is adorable (their three nieces are in it too, and cute as buttons). The movie is called “Don’t Get Eaten.”
Escondido royalty honored by council
On Wednesday, July 10 the Escondido City Council honored and then posed with members of the Escondido princesses. Vallecitos Water District Blood Drive Inspired By Vista Teen
Vista teen named Mason Harvey, with significant medical challenges who needed blood transfusions on a regular basis. He began receiving transfusions when he was 11 years old. “I had reached the point where I needed something to invigorate my efforts to donate myself, and also schedule blood drives here at the District,” said Robbins. “One of my coworkers had heard about Mason’s health issues. I found his story so compelling, especially during the pandemic when blood donations became more complicated. It made me renew my efforts.”

Escondido’s Fire Department Update
The 2024 fire season has already produced a number of fires both locally and afar. Escondido firefighters have been deployed to several cities to assist, including the Lake Fire in Santa Barbara. Their safety is important to us and we keep in close communication with them during these deployments. We are pleased to report our firefighters are doing well, helping make an impact and are safe.

Stormwater infrastructure ballot measure proponents decide to back off
San Diego City Council President Sean Elo-Rivera has decided to withhold a proposed stormwater funding measure from the November 2024 ballot, he announced Friday. Elo-Rivera, along with Council President Pro tem Joe LaCava and a coalition of community advocates, decided to withdraw efforts to place the item on the ballot because of "substantial changes" to ACA 1, a proposed state ballot measure which, if approved by voters, would have set the threshold for voter approval of local infrastructure funding at 55%.
MTS, NCTD now offer 'contactless' fare payment with credit cards, smartphones
San Diego public transit passengers can now pay for bus and trolley fares with the tap of a credit card or phone, transit officials announced Friday. The change, which was spearheaded by the upstart transit advocacy group RideSD, is meant to make transit more accessible for occasional riders who don't need a monthly pass. The payment option works with contactless credit cards as well as mobile wallets such as Apple Pay on both phones and wearable devices like smart watches.
