Stover man now charged with murder of Hallsville man whose body was found alongside road last month
A Morgan County man is now charged with the murder of a Boone County man whose body was found just south of Stover. Chad Armstrong, 50, of Stover, was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of 71-year-old Beauford Wilson of Hallsville.
Columbia library to host opioid education event, naloxone distribution
The monthly education on opioids and how to treat overdoses with naloxone, brand name Narcan, will happen July 30 at the Columbia Public Library. The program is a partnership of Boone County Overdose Response Coalition and Columbia Boone County Public Health and Human Services are working together to host the event noon to 1 p.m. at 100 W. Broadway. Guests will receive information on naloxone and be able to take a box of the medicine home with them. Registration is not required.

Firefighters, family and others bid farewell to Matthew Tobben on Saturday morning in Union, where he grew up and spent most of his career. Tobben, 42, assistant chief with the Boone County Fire Protection District, died early Monday rescuing two people from floodwaters in north Columbia. He was in an inflatable boat with another firefighter and the two distressed individuals when the boat capsized.
