Paul Frasher, principal at Starmount High School, loves having fun with his students. He believes that students should be rewarded for following the school rules, so the school and its MTSS team recently hosted a pancake breakfast to reward students who had fewer than five absences and no major discipline referrals during quarter three.

“I believe that it encourages students to keep making good choices,” said Frasher. Many teachers were involved by helping make pancakes, giving the pancakes out, adding syrup, monitoring games or watching students.

“I think it's a good idea to host things like this. It's great for kids to create high school memories. Ten years from now they aren't going to remember what they did in the classroom but the time so and so did such things,” said Mrs. Kelly Bates dropout prevention coordinator.

Pancakes were not the only fun thing at breakfast. There were also games set up on the field like soccer, RC cars, corn hole, volleyball, and flag football, and some people just walked around the track.

“I liked the games. I thought it was just going to be pancakes and when I walked out and saw the games I was surprised. Everyone was having fun at the corn hole and I like playing volleyball," said senior Nevaeh Long.

Many students just liked the time away from class to hang out with their friends.

"Being able to spend time with my friends because I don’t see them around school as much,” Hailey Chavez- Popoca said about what she enjoyed most at the event.
