Ocean Point Column: Activities have begun
Abby and Tim Mahoney have arrived and are busy preparing for what will be a very busy season of activities! Despite the fact that activities didn’t officially begin until Monday, July 1 Abby, Tim and their assistant Kate Lindley were kind enough to hold some of the kids weekly activities this past week, thank you. Prior to the Mahoneys’ arrival Kate was busy preparing the Casino for opening, thank you to her as well.

Stone makes splash at rock skipping contest
With a name like Cary Stone, what options do you have but to win a rock skipping contest? Managing 20 skips across the inner harbor, “Mr. Stone” won both the men’s division and most overall skips at the annual Orne's Candy Store International Rock-Skipping Contest June 29.

Motor Booty Affair delights hundreds
The weather gods were smiling once again, when Motor Booty Affair returned to the stage Wednesday, June 26 for the first concert in this year’s Southport Musicfest series. A sold out all ages crowd of around 500 danced the night away on the lawn of the Newagen Seaside Inn. Local hero, Chip Schwehm was on hand to open the proceedings and get the audience suitably warmed up for the main event. Motor Booty Affair are the first of 3 acts to grace the Musicfest stage this summer with additional concerts on July 17 with Maine’s Spencer Albee and Aug. 14 with The Rupert’s Orchestra.

Those of us born way back in the 1900s can remember a time when we didn’t carry our phones with us all day long. And we definitely did not have them with us at school. Yes, when we were in school, we went through the entire day without having our phones. If we were lucky enough to have a phone, we left it in our car (sometimes, the phone was built into the car) or our locker. But more likely, we did not get our first cellphone until we were adults.

Southport Memorial Library is pleased to display the photography of Bruce Burnham during the months of July and August. Bruce is a Boothbay native whose family roots date back to the 1700s. He’s been looking through the viewfinders of cameras since seventh grade. In high school he lobbied for some darkroom equipment for the art department. His love of developing his own film and prints cemented his love of the photographic arts.
