FANS were in agreement with ESPN broadcaster Doris Burke after she referenced Caitlin Clark after a hard foul occurred during the NBA Finals.

Burke made a joke about the WNBA star Caitlin Clark during Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks on Monday night.

During the second quarter, Mavericks’ PJ Washington was called for a foul after he tossed Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis to the floor.

Washington was assessed only a common foul, and Burke name-dropped the 2024 WNBA No. 1 overall pick Clark after making a joke about the call.

“If [Porzingis was] Caitlin Clark, it might spark a debate for a week,” Burke said.

ESPN play-by-play broadcaster Mike Breen chuckled after the comment.

The remark was about the Indiana Fever point guard Clark regularly getting fouled hard and the debate revolving around the topic.

NBA fans agreed with Burke’s comment on live television .

“Great line by Doris,” one wrote.

“I mean…she’s not wrong. Media latched on hard to Caitlin Clark because of how riled people get,” another commented

“Well said Doris… nothing but facts,” a third added.

On Sunday, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese was given a flagrant foul for slapping Clark on the side of the head.

Clark was already on the receiving end of a hard foul in the previous matchup when Chennedy Carter pushed her from behind earlier this month.

That play sparked plenty of talk in the basketball and social media world.

“I think it’s just the emotion and passion that we play with,” Clark said when asked about Reese’s foul.

“I think people love to see that. I think that’s maybe not something that was always appreciated in women’s sports, and it should be. I think that’s what makes it fun.”

Clark and Reese have a rivalry that dates back to their college days.

Reese and her LSU Tigers defeated Clark and her Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023 women’s national championship game.

    NBA Finals schedule

    Thur 6 June - Game 1 - Dallas Mavericks 89-107 Boston Celtics

    Sun 9 June – Game 2 – Dallas Mavericks 98-105 Boston Celtics

    Wed 12 June – Game 3 – Boston Celtics 106-99 Dallas Mavericks

    Fri 14 June – Game 4 – Boston Celtics 84-122 Dallas Mavericks

    Mon 17 June – Game 5 – Dallas Mavericks 88-106 Boston Celtics

    (Boston Celtics won 4-1)

At the end of the contest, Reese pointed her ring finger toward Clark.

The latter player would get revenge the following season as Iowa beat LSU in this year’s Elite Eight.

Burke’s comment about Clark came as the Celtics went on to beat the Mavericks 106-88 to win the franchise’s 18th championship.
