Red Sox change catchers in lineup for series finale vs. Padres

After dropping the first two games of the series, the Boston Red Sox are hosting the San Deigo Padres for the third and final game of the series at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon.

For the matchup, Boston will send Josh Winckowski to the mound while San Diego will counter with Matt Waldron.

Here's what Alex Cora's lineup will look like for the meeting:

    1. Jarren Duran LF
    2. David Hamilton SS
    3. Wilyer Abreu RF
    4. Rafael Devers 3B
    5. Enmanuel Valdez 2B
    6. Masataka Yoshida DH
    7. Dom Smith 1B
    8. Reese McGuire C
    9. Ceddanne Rafaela CF

Winckowski has been pretty good for Boston this year, posting a 3.26 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in his 13 appearances (three starts). He's only had one outing since returning from Triple-A Worcester, allowing just two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings in relief against the Toronto Blue Jays. Only two Padres have recorded hits off of him - Kyle Higashioka (1-for-1 with an RBI) and Jurickson Profar (1-for-1).

Waldron, a knuckleballer, has pitched well in his 16 starts for San Diego in 2024, recording a 3.43 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP while striking out 84. He's allowed two or fewer runs in his last nine starts, and he's never allowed a hit to any member of Boston's lineup.
