Walking throughout a new city can lead you to the joy of the local culture, provide health benefits, and help you save money. You’ll also be doing the environment a favor by reducing your carbon footprint.

USA Today has ranked cities in the United States for their walkability during a visit, and one Massachusetts city made the top 10.

Boston took the 6th spot on USA Today’s list as there are lots of things to do, places to eat, and places to stay, and it’s all connected by pedestrian-friendly streets. Boston is a city that’s fun to explore on foot, such as going to Beacon Hill, the neighborhood where the real Cheers is located. Other walkable parts of the city for visitors to explore include the North End, Back Bay, and Harvard Square.

With Boston’s compact size, short blocks, multiple subway stops, and intimate scale, Downtown is a walker’s paradise.
