MLB writer lists three prospects Red Sox could send out at the trade deadline

There's just over three weeks until the MLB trade deadline, and the Boston Red Sox currently own the last wild-card spot in the American League.

If Boston wants to push for a higher seed, they may want to consider buying at the deadline and adding some serious talent to help their roster over the back half of the season. But, who could the Red Sox be sending out if they do decide to add?

MassLive's Sean McAdam recently put together a list of three prospects that Boston could make available in trades, as he noted that the team probably won't even pick up the phone on trades involving their top three prospects - Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel.

However, McAdam believes that the Red Sox may be willing to part with Nick Yorke, Matthew Lugo and Nathan Hickey.

Yorke was Boston's first-round pick in the 2020 draft, and he's really been performing well since being promoted to Triple-A Worcester. In 25 games, he's hit .320 with a .914 OPS, four home runs, 15 RBIs and six stolen bases. He's currently No. 12 in SoxProspect's rankings.

Lugo was Boston's second-round pick in 2019, and he's currently No. 13 in the system. In 23 games with Worcester, he's hit .247 with an .826 OPS, four home runs 14 RBIs and five stolen bases.

Hickey, Boston's fifth-round selection in 2021, has fallen quite a bit in SoxProspect's rankings, dropping from No. 17 earlier in the year to No. 33 now. He's hit just .207 with a .709 OPS, seven home runs, 43 RBIs and three stolen bases in Triple-A.

MLB.com ranks Yorke at No. 6 and Hickey at No. 16 in Boston's system. Lugo isn't ranked in the top 30.

With how deep the farm system has gotten in recent years, the Red Sox could still get talented players without parting with one of their top prospects.
