On Sunday, the Boston Red Sox used their first-round selection (No. 12 overall) on Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery.

Montgomery is set to join the Red Sox organization as the highest selection since Boston took Marcelo Mayer out of Eastlake High School in 2021. The Red Sox took Kyle Teel at No. 14 overall in 2023 and Mikey Romero at No. 24 overall in 2022.

The outfield prospect was at the MLB draft, and The Boston Globe's Alex Speier caught him scootering himself around with the crowd cheering him on.

Montgomery suffered an ankle injury in Game 1 of Texas A&M's super regional matchup with Oregon, and the injury cost him the rest of the postseason, including an opportunity to appear in the College World Series final against Tennessee.

According to The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey , the 21-year-old is expected to be cleared for walking in two weeks and should begin rehabbing then.
