An incident involving a stolen vehicle at the Forest Hills MBTA station left a Boston police officer injured and a suspect shot on Thursday night, authorities said.

The suspect is in critical condition and the officer is in stable condition, according to a statement from Commissioner William Cox.

Cox says officers arrived at the station around 7:45 p.m. to investigate reports of a stolen motor vehicle.

“As officers approached the vehicle, the suspect operating the motor vehicle struck the officer,” Cox said. “The officer discharged his weapon, striking the operator of the motor vehicle.”

Boston EMS arrived at the station, transporting the officer and the suspect to two different medical facilities. Cox says the incident is under investigation with the BPD’s Firearm Discharge team and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

The streets surrounding the Forest Hills station, specifically Hyde Park Avenue between Ukraine Way and Arborway will remain blocked for the upcoming several hours as police begin investigative work, Cox said late Thursday night.

“We wish all those involved and all those impacted by this a speedy recovery,” Cox said.
