Celtics Fans Roasted Rival Team After Sam Hauser Got $45M Extension

Boston Celtics fans used the news of Sam Hauser's new contract as an opportunity to throw shade at the Miami Heat.

Hauser on Sunday agreed to a four-year, $45 million extension with the Celtics , according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Hauser is set to earn just over $2 million in salary next season before the extension kicks in. The new deal would keep Hauser under contract up until the 2028-29 season.

Only Hauser and Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown are on the team's payroll through 2029. But despite the news being about Hauser and the Celtics, another player became a talking point among NBA fans on social media.

A number of Celtics fans compared Hauser's deal to that of Heat guard Duncan Robinson. The Heat signed Robinson, who has a similar skill set as Hauser, to a five-year, $90 million deal back in 2021.

Compared to Robinson's deal, the Celtics appeared to have gotten a significant discount on Hauser's contract.

"Wild to think that Duncan Robinson makes 2x the amount that Hauser does"

"Duncan Robinson got 90 million and we paid Sam whos better 45.. Lovely having a good GM"

"Duncan Robinson is 5 years 90 million lmaooo"

"The Heat are really paying almost 20 mil a year for Duncan Robinson and the Celtics only have to pay Hauser 11"

"Reminder that Duncan Robinson got 80M guaranteed in 2021!!"

In all fairness to the Heat, Robinson was a full-time starter in the two seasons leading up to his 2021 contract. He averaged at least 13 points per game on over 40% shooting from three in both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 campaigns.

Hauser has only started in 21 total games throughout his three seasons in the NBA. He has also yet to average double figures in his career.

Part of that is due to the Celtics fielding a stacked, championship-caliber roster. Perhaps Hauser would have performed just as well if he had gotten as big of an opportunity as Robinson did with the Heat.

After a couple of down years, Robinson managed to bounce back last season. The Heat guard averaged 12.9 points across 28.0 minutes per game and shot just shy of 40% shooting from three.

Hauser averaged 9.0 points on 42.4% shooting from deep while playing 22.0 minutes per contest.
