    Former Boston police officer in overtime scheme ordered to pay back money

    BOSTON (WWLP) – A former Boston police officer has been sentenced as part of an overtime fraud scheme.

    West Springfield Police looking to identify suspects who allegedly stole medication from Stop & Shop

    Michael Murphy of Hyde Park pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and one count of embezzlement from an agency receiving federal funds. He was sentenced to two years of supervised release. Murphy was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and $16,014 in restitution.

    Murphy was convicted for overtime hours he did not work at the evidence warehouse between September 2016 and February 2019. To date, 15 Boston cops have been charged for overtime fraud, Murphy is the sixth to be sentenced so far.
