BOSTON - A person who was driving a scooter has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Jamaica Plain Monday afternoon. The man who was shot has life threatening injuries, Boston police said.

Police responded to 245 Centre Street at about 2:37 p.m. following a ShotSpotter activation and a 911 call for a person being shot. The victim was driving a Ford pickup truck when he ambushed. The shooter took off on a scooter.

Three bullet holes pierced the driver's side of the truck stopped on Centre Street and several evidence markers surrounded it.

Witnesses gave police a description of a man wearing all black in a mask on the scooter.

    Suspect arrested, gun recovered

"A description was given out of an individual on a scooter who was responsible for the shooting," said Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin. "Shortly thereafter, officers observed a person matching that description. That suspect was stopped, placed under arrest and a firearm was recovered."

Detectives tracked him down and arrested the suspect about a mile away on Rockvale Circle. The suspect's name has not been released by police.

The shooting comes just a few weeks after three people were shot down the street over the Fourth of July weekend. Concerned neighbors wonder how the violence can be curbed before innocent people are hurt.

"Really sad, because this is such a pretty nice area," said Evan Holtom, who heard the shooting from his apartment nearby. "Train station right there. Kids. What if a kid got shot?"
