The Red Sox Need To Trade For Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Can I just rant? That’s why you’re here so I’m just going to get on with it. I don’t hate Craig Breslow but enough is enough already with the whole “I am Chaim Bloom except I care about pitching philosophy”. When will the Red Sox try to actually win instead of doing everything possible to make these middling moves that result in being slightly above average? It’s time to get serious about the whole winning thing and now is the time to strike a trade for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

A: The Blue Jays are bad and they’re not going anywhere. They’ve already started to sell and they need those guys for 2025. You know, the last year Toronto actually has Vlad under team control. If Toronto wants to maximize any return for Vlad, they need to do it right now. Everybody with a brain knows it.

B: The Red Sox are not going anywhere without one more big right-handed power bat. Devers needs a sidekick the same way the Yankees just got Aaron Judge one with Juan Soto. The Red Sox need their version of Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz again. If anybody in the league is going to replicate what Ortiz gave Boston, isn’t it Vlad? Does anybody even fit that description better beyond the obvious fact that Vlad is a righty… but that’s exactly what the current Red Sox need.

C: The farm system is packed and they need the 40-man spots. There is no reason you can’t put a package together of four-five middle tier guys to make this deal happen. Especially considering the fact that Vlad needs a new contract and his arb number is climbing to the point where dumb executives will say he doesn’t have the same surplus value. What I’m saying is there is no reason why this deal can’t happen without hanging onto all of the no-trade whatsoever list (Mayer, Teel, Anthony, etc).

If Breslow had any balls he would be calling Toronto every half hour to get this done. Instead, he wasted his time giving Toronto the prospects they want in a Danny Jansen trade that never moves the needle. #dumb.
