Red Sox DFA left-handed pitcher after acquiring Lucas Sims

The Boston Red Sox have been making a ton of roster moves recently with all of the trades that they've made.

On Tuesday, Boston acquired reliever Lucas Sims from the Cincinnati Reds , and in order to create a spot on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox had to designate left-handed pitcher Brandon Walter for assignment.

Walter, 27, was selected in the 26th round of the 2019 MLB draft by the Red Sox. He debuted with the team in 2023 and made nine appearances, posting a 6.26 ERA (4.60 FIP) and a 1.696 WHIP while striking out 16 batters in 23 innings.

He's yet to pitch in 2024 due to a left rotator cuff strain.

Once a top prospect in Boston's system, Walter is currently No. 50, according to Sox Prospects .

Assuming he passes through waivers, there's a strong chance that he returns to the Red Sox.
