Red Sox's Alex Cora credits recently traded prospect for Boston's deadline improvement

Heading into the MLB trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox were in need of pitching help in both their rotation and their bullpen, and they made the necessary moves to address those areas.

In total, Boston added five new players to their roster by trade and sent out 10 prospects in return.

After the deadline passed, Red Sox manager Alex Cora spoke about the transactions and praised one prospect, Nick Yorke, for allowing them to improve their roster for the rest of the season and beyond.

"I think what Yorke did this year helped us to accomplish that (adding arms)," Cora said ( via MassLive ). "In the offseason, a lot of people outside our doors gave up on him. He put (in) the work and he’s relevant again.

“He had a great season. He’s a good player but obviously, where we’re at roster-wise and within the organization, it’s something we have to take advantage of in a sense."

In 38 games at Triple-A Worcester this season, Yorke hit .310 with an .898 OPS, six home runs and 19 RBIs, going from a forgotten prospect to one the Red Sox could use to add an intriguing piece (pitcher Quinn Priester).

Now, Yorke will get a chance with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him play at the major league level in the near future.
