The MLB Trade Deadline has passed and the Boston Red Sox (58-50) made a couple of moves to better position themselves for a playoff run down the stretch. Here is the latest news and updates on players the Red Sox may be adding from the injured list to help their push.
10/15-Day Injured List
RHP Chris Martin
Chris Martin (2-1, 3.42 ERA; right elbow inflammation) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Saturday in Texas. He will begin a rehab assignment early next week if all goes well. Manager Alex Cora says he expects Martin to be active at the start of their next homestand on August 9th.
2B Vaughn Grissom
Vaughn Grissom (right hamstring strain) continued his rehab assignment this week, belting a 2-run homer in a game on August 1st. Grissom's rehab assignment expires on August 8th. The Red Sox will either have to activate him or option him to Triple-A when the time comes.
RHP Justin Slaten
Justin Slaten (right elbow inflammation) has been playing catch at 75 feet. While his return is coming slower than expected, he is still expected to return in August.
60-Day Injured List
1B Triston Casas
Triston Casas (torn cartilage in left rib cage) played in the second minor league game of his rehab assignment on August 1st, where he notched one hit. He had a scheduled off day on August 2nd, but will return to the lineup for another rehab game on August 3rd. Casas is expected to return in August.
RHP Liam Hendriks
Liam Hendriks (right UCL surgery) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on July 30th. He has been throwing two bullpen sessions a week for a month. Friday marked the one-year anniversary of his surgery, and he celebrated it in the only way Hendriks knew how:
