Family, Friends And Baseball: The Simple Things Shine At The Minster Classic
Minster, Oh – — While walking around Minster’s Four Seasons Recreational Park, and its eight ball diamonds, it wasn’t hard to spot what the communities involved value. Youth baseball is a family affair in West Central Ohio. That may be taken for granted by folks who have lived in small-town farming communities their whole lives, but that’s just not the case across the nation, or even the state.
Minster Classic Serves As Joyful Reminder Of Village’s Character
Minster, OH – — Minster, like Nebraska, may be best known by outsiders for its agriculture, or not known at all. But in the case of Minster, its best product is not its corn, but its people, and what they stand for. The Minster Classic, Ohio’s largest little...

David Trinko: Try to enjoy the last 'first time'
Jul. 20—Our youngest daughter was so excited to go to camp last week. I was decidedly less excited. It was a new experience for her, going off into the woods with her friends without parents for the first time in her 10-year-old life. It was the fourth "first time" of camp-going for me and her mother, as we'd already been through this with her older sisters years earlier. Unfortunately for ...

Minster, Oh – — Predicting the future of high school sports based on Little League results is about as reliable as a fortune cookie. But it takes no seer with a crystal ball to see how much fun Little League baseball is in the MAC. New Bremen and...

Inaugural Lima Masters tournament brings golfers together to raise money for local sports programs
HARROD, OH (WLIO) - The Lima community turned out for a golf tournament to ensure today's kids have the same opportunities they did. On Saturday, the 1st annual Lima Masters was held. The tournament started off years ago as a Lima native reunion in Columbus, but this year, the founders decided to bring it home and use the outing to raise money for athletic programs in local schools. This year's proceeds will be donated to the Lima City Schools football program through the new nonprofit 4 The Friendship. Many participants moved away from Lima a long time ago but were happy to come back for a good time and a good cause.

Locos' huge inning not quite enough for a win
Jul. 20—The award for best inning belonged to the Lima Locos. But the reward for the best body of work — a victory — belonged to the Hamilton Joes. Hamilton's 10-8 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League win over the Locos seemed to be moving steadily toward the league-leading Joes' 23rd victory as they built an 8-1 lead by the middle of the eighth inning Thursday night at Simmons Field. In the ...
