Colorado Buffaloes failing to hit critical 2025 recruiting class goal

The blue chip ratio, created by industry experts, has effectively measured the quality of top rosters. Our analysts are already looking ahead to the 2025 recruiting class, and we found that Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes are falling short in the blue chip ratio.

See why the 2025 Buffaloes recruiting class isn't quite where it needs to be.

Colorado Buffaloes 2025 Blue Chip Ratio

It's still super early in the recruiting class process, and the Buffaloes have only five commitments. With an average ranking of almost 80th in the nation, it's surprising that two of their five commitments are 4- or 5-star players. Colorado has drawn in some star power and could even flip USC QB Julian Lewis.

Since its launch in 2013, the Blue-Chip Ratio has gained recognition from leading broadcast networks and drawn keen interest from leading coaches and college sports administrators. This criterion has also been used to revive the EA Sports College Football video game. Although the formula itself isn't particularly intricate, it is a reliable indicator for pinpointing the top 10% of college football teams with a genuine chance at claiming the championship title.

If a college football team aims to clinch the national championship, it must secure more four- and five-star recruits—often referred to as "Blue Chips"—than it does two- and three-star recruits across the four most recent recruiting classes.

Since 2011, every championship team has had a winning ratio of at least 52%, with the 2013 Seminoles achieving a 53% rate. Many teams have surpassed a 70% winning rate, indicating that only a select few are truly in contention for the title even before the season starts. While this may be disheartening for some, it's simply the stark truth.

Colorado's 2024 Blue Chip Ratio Falls Short

The Buffaloes are at a 40% blue chip ratio right now. While it seems unlikely they could rise to hit the 50% rate to get into the national title race, they're still in the mix for a few big names. The hard part is Coach Deion Sanders selling players that he'll be around the program long term.

As of the current date, the colleges that boast at least a 50% blue chip ratio within their 2025 recruitment class encompass Florida State (100%), Oregon (93%), LSU (92%), Georgia (88%), Ohio State (77%), and Alabama (78%), along with a few other teams not typically considered contenders for the championship.
