The Colorado Buffaloes have a lot of expectations entering the second season with Deion Sanders running the show. On top of that, they are moving into the Big 12 Conference, so the schedule just got more difficult.

Shedeur Sanders enters the year as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in college football and a popular pick in the first round of 2025 mock drafts. NFL insider Daniel Jeremiah examined Shedeur's skillset and what he brings to the table. When asked to compare the Buffs signal-caller, he gave an interesting comparison to Geno Smith:

" He reminds me of: Geno Smith coming out of West Virginia. Like Smith during his time with the Mountaineers, Sanders plays in a wide-open college offense that showcases his polish as a passer. Both Smith and Sanders have beautiful throwing motions and deliver a firm, catchable ball," Jeremiah said. "While each is capable of taking the free yards presented in the run game, neither is dynamic as a ball-carrier. Following a long, rocky start to this NFL career, Smith blossomed into a Pro Bowl quarterback. I see similar upside in Sanders."

Shedeur Sanders threw for 3,230 yards with 27 touchdowns and three interceptions in his first year in Boulder after transferring from Jackson State.

He was also the most-sacked quarterback in college football last year, so that didn't help his case.

The latest ESPN mock draft had Shedeur Sanders going second overall to the Las Vegas Raiders and being the second QB taken behind Carson Beck from Georgia.

As far as the Geno Smith comparisons go, the former West Virginia star has turned his NFL career around after a rough stretch. Now, he is the starter for the Seattle Seahawks and is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons as well as winning Comeback Player of the Year in 2022.

That's an interesting comparison for Shedeur Sanders, but those who remember Geno Smith's days at West Virginia will love the thought of it.

The Buffs begin the season against North Dakota State before a huge showdown with Nebraska on the road.
