Severe Weather is in the Past, Now We Look Forward to Summer Heat

After this past weekends storms, severe weather season has come to an end.

Flood Warnings:

• After all the rainfall, Barton and Vernon counties received 8-10 inches of rain.
• Flood warnings for Bourbon, Barton, and Vernon counties remain in effect until Monday at 7am.
• Neosho River has a flood warning through Wednesday in multiple counties.

Drought Conditions:

• The rain is always good for the Earth, bringing us out of drought conditions for one.
• Our entire viewing area is completely out of a drought.

Upper Level Flow:

• We have a very large ridge over our area, which brings sinking air into our region.
• Sinking air is directly related to calmer, dry conditions.

Heat Impacts:

• Now that we are moving into the summer months, temperatures are starting to warm back up into the 80s and 90s this week.
• Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can be hard to notice but very deadly.
• Even though severe weather season is nearly over, it is always good to stay weather aware.

10 Day Forecast:

• Next couple of days in the upper 70s to low 80s.
• We start to really warm up by midweek.
• Temperatures reach 90s by the weekend and will stick around in the 90s consistently.
• Chance of rain Friday night into Saturday morning, but other than that we will remain pretty dry this week.
