Historic season: Cape Cod High School Boys Lacrosse All-Stars Team

There is a high school state champion on Cape Cod for the second straight spring season.

Last year, the Bourne High baseball team won their first title in program history.

The Nantucket High boys lacrosse team kept the trend going as they won their first championship in program history in the first all-Cape state title game against Sandwich.

This was an historic lacrosse season as four teams made the Final Four in the state tournament. Nauset made it for the the semifinals for the first time, while Falmouth made it in back-to-back seasons.

Here are the players who helped make this historic season on Cape Cod happen. Presenting the boys lacrosse All-Stars 2024 team:

First Team

Doug Carr, Barnstable

The senior attacker finished with 50 goals and 17 assists for the Red Hawks, which earned him a spot as an Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star.

“Doug is the QB of our offense, and everything runs through him. We go, as Doug goes," Barnstable head coach Tim Flynn said.

Ryan Haden, Bourne

The junior captain attacker led the Canalmen in points (76) with 52 goals and 24 assists. He now has 77 goals, 34 assist for 111 career points.

"Whether he scores it or assists it, most of our goals start with Ryan holding the ball," Bourne head coach Tim Crowley said. "He is exactly who you want in an attackman, a great head for the game and a skill set to match."

Haden's most memorable moment was going into Dighton Rehoboth on its senior night with an 11-man roster and winning 11-10 in overtime. Haden also plays basketball, golf, and is a part of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA).

Ty Hawkes, Bourne

Hawkes played at midfield in his sophomore campaign and finished with 57 goals and 17 assists (74 points). He now has 62 goals and 28 assists for 90 career points.

"Ty is about as well-rounded of a player as they come," Crowley said. "You put him at any position and he is going to have a significant impact on the game. Combine that with lacrosse IQ and passionate competitiveness, and you have an All-Star.

His favorite moment of the season was beating Old Rochester at home (9-8) for the first time in five years. Hawkes also plays football.

Sean Kelley, Bourne

The sophomore midfielder was 77% on faceoffs, and added 51 points with 26 goals and 25 assists. He has 34 goals and 27 assists for his career for 61 points.

"Sean was the key to most of our victories," Crowley said. "I can't stress enough how important possession is in lacrosse, and from the first to last, Sean gets us the ball when we truly need it."

His most memorable moment of the season was beating Old Rochester 9-8 for the first time in five years. Kelley also plays soccer and is on the Student Council.

Tripp Germani, Cape Cod Academy

The freshman attacker was a force for the Seahawks with 52 goals and 29 assists for 81 points. He was a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star. Germani already has 126 career points with 72 goals and 54 assists.

"Tripp broke out of his shell this year and kept many goalies on their toes with his size, speed, and snipe of a lefty shot," Cape Cod Academy head coach Christian Sears said. "He has great vision for assists, but his specialty is reading the defense and exploiting weaknesses. He will be a fun player to watch in the coming years as he continues to build his size and speed."

Landen O'Neil, Cape Cod Academy

O'Neil is just an eighth grader, but you couldn't tell by his play on the field. He wrapped up his season with 137 points with 76 goals and 61 assists. He already has 213 points (128 goals, 85 assists) in just two years. He was named a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star.

"Landen O'Neil made the prestigious PLL Little Archers last summer and has continued being part of many selected programs up and down the East Coast," Sears said. "He dedicates himself to his strength and conditioning routine, both with his team, as well as at home. His IQ for lacrosse comes from years of watching his older brothers and sister, and he will be a fun player to watch as he takes his next step with Tabor Academy."

O'Neil's favorite moment came when he scored his 100th career goal against St. John Paul II. He also plays football.

Tommy Bushy, Falmouth

The senior captain had 247 saves on the year and a 65% save percentage in his first season as goalie. He made 20 saves Final Four game against Scituate. He was a Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star. Bushy will take a post graduate year at Bridgton Academy next year.

"Unbelievable leader who took over the starting role this year and helped lead the team and defense unit," Falmouth head coach Rory Morse said.

Jackson Falcone, Falmouth

The senior captain led the team in scoring with 71 points in the regular season, and added 17 more points in the tournament for 88 overall points. He was named an Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star. Falcone was a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American, and is heading to Vassar College to continue his lacrosse career.

Cole Gaudet, Falmouth

Gaudet played at attack in his final high school season. The team captain led the team in goals with 69, which included 21 goals in four games in the state tournament. He is a two-time Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star. He will continue playing lacrosse at Division 2 American International College.

Dominic Matteodo, Mashpee

Matteodo had 43 goals and 32 assists (75 points), and was 90% on ground balls in his junior season as a midfielder. He scored on 51% of his shots, and the team captain was selected as a South Shore League All-Star.

"Dominic is a natural team leader. He is smart, quick, and sure-footed," Mashpee head coach Dave Ellison said. "His ability to read the field and recognize situations is uncanny. He takes smart shots and looks and usually finds the open man."

His favorite moment was the Falcons winning their first game in two years He also is the quarterback for the varsity football team, plays varsity basketball, is on the Student Council, and a part of the Red Cross Youth Club. Matteodo plans to attend a four-year university and major in Marine Biology.

Maxx Smith, Mashpee

Smith played at attack for his junior season he ended with 77 points (57 goals, 20 assists) and was 70% on ground balls for the Falcons. He has 109 career points with 83 goals and 26 assists. The team captain was selected for the South Shore League All-Star team.

"Maxx can beat you on the field in several ways," Ellison said. "He can find the back of the net, is a hard worker, and sparks the offense.

His most memorable moment of this season was celebrating with his teammates after their first win in a year against East Bridgewater. Smith is in the National Honor Society, Red Cross Youth Club, and volunteers for the Falmouth Road Race.

Max Barrett, Monomoy

The senior played on defense for the Sharks and had 110 ground ball wins, 42 takeaways, eight goals, and eight assists. The two-year captain is now a two-time Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star. He finished his high school career with 233 ground ball wins, 99 takeaways, 11 goals, and 10 assists.

“Max is our defensive leader, has great footwork and stick checks," Monomoy head coach John Kent said. "He’s key to our clears and fast breaks, and is a great role model for his teammates.”

Barrett's highlight of the season was his behind-the-back goal against Bourne. He also plays soccer, and enjoys fishing and snowboarding. He will take his talents to the University of New England in the fall to further his education and play lacrosse.

Braeden Darling, Monomoy

The senior defenseman broke a regular season school record with 118 ground ball wins, and added 44 takeaways, three goals, and six assists. Darling is a also a two-year captain and a two-time Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star. He ended his Sharks career with 167 ground ball wins, 64 takeaways, four goals, and 11 assists.

“Braeden sets the tone on defense, is an excellent on ball and off ball defender, and key to our clears. It’s hard to believe this is only Braeden’s third year playing lacrosse," Kent said.

His most memorable moment was beating Martha's Vineyard on the road for the first time in program history. He plays soccer, and also likes weightlifting. His will continue his lacrosse at UMass Boston (D3) and will major in Biology.

Jake Giorgio, Monomoy

Giorgio played as the goalie for the Sharks in his junior season and had 237 saves on 332 shots for a 71% save percentage. He finished with a 80% save percentage against league opponents in the last six regular season games. He also added three assists and was named an Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star. He has 373 saves on 559 shots for 67% save percentage for his career so far.

“Jake is the brick wall of our defense and is key to our success," Kent said. "Many of his saves were doorstop saves in key moments of games.”

His most memorable moment was winning the Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division title. Giorgio is a three-sport athlete and plays football and hockey as well, which is why exercising is one of his extracurricular activities.

Tamer Khalil, Monomoy

The junior attack and faceoff player was named the unanimous Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division MVP. He scored 71 goals (including 100th career goal), and chipped in 42 assists for 113 points, and added 80 ground ball wins.

Khalil is the current school record holder for goals (153) and points (226). He also has 73 assists, 228 ground ball wins, and a 84% win rate on faceoffs for his career. He is two-time C&I League All Star, and is the captain for the Sharks.

“Tamer gives maximum effort each and every day he takes the field," Kent said. "He’s a clutch performer who we depend upon in the biggest moments.”

Colton Chambers, Nantucket

The senior two-year captain, and four-year starter, at attack finished his final high school season with 83 points (43 goals, 40 assists). Chambers was named a Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star.

"Colton is the backbone of the offensive unit and a team leader on and off the field," Nantucket head coach Sam Aloisi said.

Arann Hanlon, Nantucket

The sophomore midfielder led the team in goals with 53, and dished out 20 assists for the Whalers. He selected as an Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star.

"Arann was our leading goal scorer and an integral part of the offense, as well as a very good defender and transition player," Aloisi said.

His favorite moment goes without saying was winning the state championship. Hanlon plays football and golf, and also likes fishing.

Hunter Strojny, Nantucket

The senior captain was one of the key defenders for the Whalers and was named a Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star.

"Hunter is a tremendous one-on-one defender, our best take away guy, and a very good ball handler," Aloisi said.

No surprise that his highlight of the season was winning the state championship. Strojny also plays hockey and likes fishing. He plans on playing hockey at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Logan Poulin, Nauset

The junior faceoff midfielder was named the Cape and Islands League Atlantic MVP with 40 goals, eight assists, and was 328-for-448 (73%) on faceoffs. He has 62 goals 14 assists, and is 891/1302 on faceoffs for his career.

“Logan is a true impact player on the field," Nauset head coach Jesse Peno said. "Not only is he adept at winning faceoffs multiple different ways, he is not just a one-trick pony evidenced by his 40 goals this season. Logan is the ultimate competitor who works every day to improve”

Poulin most memorable moment was beating Newburyport in overtime of the Elite Eight off the winning the game faceoff. Poulin also play varsity hockey for the Warriors. He is already committed to play D1 lacrosse at the University of Vermont.

Shane Corcoran, Sandwich

Corcoran made his own history this season as he was the first Blue Knight to be a U.S. Lacrosse Eastern Mass All- American. The senior goalie was also named the South Shore League MVP as he had 4.43 goals against average with 266 saves this season.

"Shane is an outstanding , yet humble young man on and off the field. He is a natural leader that never quits," Sandwich head coach Mike McNeil said.

Avery Richardson, Sandwich

Richardson is the Blue Knights' new record holder for career goals with 180. The senior attacker had 36 goals and 18 assists this season. The Blue Knights' captain was selected as an South Shore League All-Star.

"Avery's skill and knowledge of the game is exceptional. He is a motivator and a trusted teammate, and leads by example," McNeil said.

Cole Rodgers, Sandwich

Rodgers led the Blue Knights in scoring (108 points) and goals (72) this season to go along with 36 assists. He was named a South Shore League All-Star. The junior attackman has 163 career goals.

"Cole is a fierce competitor and knows how to get the job done," McNeil said. "He is somebody that the team counts on in big situations."

Second Team

Ryan O’Donnell, Barnstable

The freshman made an immediate impact at midfield with 28 goals and 12 assists for the Red Hawks.

“Ryan is an extremely skilled player. He loves the game and plays with a desire to be great," Flynn said.

Harrison Barbieri, Cape Cod Academy

The junior captain for the Seahawks played at attack and finished with 30 goals and 17 assists for 47 points. He stands at 65 goals and 37 assists (92 points) for his career. He was named a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star.

"Harrison has size and speed that made it difficult for many defensemen to know whether he was going to dodge or use them as a screen because his shot was going to go regardless," Sears said. "He has great vision to read the defense and can find an open teammate just as he can find the back of the net."

Brady Livingston, Cape Cod Academy

The junior captain was at faceoff and midfield for the Seahawks and finished with 34 points (22 goals, 12 assists), and was had a 71% faceoff win percentage. He was named a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star. Livingston has 45 goals and 36 assists (81 points) for his career.

"Brady's leadership as captain begins with each whistle that starts the game," Sears said. "He is constantly locked in and boasted his highest winning percentage ever. He finished the regular season winning 24-for-24 faceoffs and continues to find ways to improve at the faceoff X. He also has a great dodge and shot which makes him a threat to most defenses."

Charlie Blake, Dennis-Yarmouth

The junior played on defense and led the Dolphins in ground balls and caused turnovers. Blake was named a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star.

"Charlie was our top cover man, taking the majority of faceoffs," D-Y head coach Chris Cunnington said. "He was the leader on the defensive side of the ball Lead team in ground balls and caused turnovers.

Jacob Porkka, Falmouth

The junior defenseman had 65 ground balls and had one goal. He was named a Cape and Islands League Atlantic All-Star.

"He can control a game in multiple ways and was in charge of playing the other team's best attackman," Morse said. "He was instrumental in our clearing game this year, but contributed to many others with his lacrosse IQ."

Christian Hanoian, Falmouth Academy

The senior defenseman did it all for the Mariners as he led the team in ground balls, takeaways, clears, and also (as a long stick) in goals (30) and assists (14). He is a four-year starter and will play at Emmanuel College next year. He was named to the Cape and Islands All-League Lighthouse Team.

"Christian has been a standout for us on both ends of the field for four years," Falmouth Academy head coach Mike Earley said. "He can cover our opponent's top attackmen, he is excellent in transition, and for the past two years he has played on our man-up team and led the team in scoring both years."

Aiden Conley, Martha’s Vineyard

The senior led the team in scoring for the second straight season with 45 goals, and scored seven goals in a game twice this season. He finished his high school career with 132 goals and 23 assists (155 points).

"A quiet leader, and the type of player that you want to staff your whole bench with," Martha's Vineyard head coach Chris Greene said. "A player that has only begun to tap into what he has to offer the game of lacrosse here. I look forward to following him at Rivier College next year."

Vinnie Pinnetti, Mashpee

The junior defenseman was 80% on ground balls, had an 85% clear rate, and contributed five assists. He is a team captain and was selected for the South Shore League All-Star team.

"Vinnie is the rock of our defense. He is a strong athlete who puts his heart and soul on the line every game," Ellison said. "He is quick on his feet and has a high lacrosse IQ."

Joey McKeen, Monomoy

The senior attackman finished with 50 points (26 goals, 24 assists), and 23 ground ball wins. The captain was named a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division All-Star. He finished his high school career with 67 points (40 goals, 27 assists) and 48 ground ball wins.

“Joey shows desire, heart, perseverance, and high energy every time he steps on the field on game day, and he’s a force on our rides," Kent said.

Jack Halik, Nantucket

The senior played at attack and midfield for the Whalers and ended with 29 goals and 19 assists for 48 points. He was named a Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star.

"Jack was a force all over the field this season," Aloisi said. "He played attack, midfield, man up, man down. He really expanded his talents this season by playing a much larger role on defense that proved key in many situations.

Jeremy Jenkinson, Nantucket

The sophomore goalie had 171 saves for the champion Whalers this season.

"Jeremy was a big factor in our success this season," Aloisi said. "The bigger the game and situation, the better he played. He kept us in many close games when momentum could have gone against us."

Owen Sullivan, Nantucket

Sullivan played as a long stick middie in his junior season for the Whalers, and was named a Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star.

"Owen was key on the wing on face-offs and controlled the midfield in defensive situations, and was the team's ground ball leader," Aloisi said.

Joey Berardi, Nauset

The junior midfielder as a threat on the offense with 57 points (35 goals 22 assists). He has 52 goals and 27 assists for 79 career points.

“Joey was a matchup problem for every team we faced," Coach Peno said. "He is strong and tough as well as explosive when he dodges. His play making ability improved dramatically this season, and he was our assist leader.”

Liam Johnston, Nauset

The senior defenseman had 59 ground ball wins, 37 caused turnovers, two goals and eight assists. He was named a Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division All-Star. Johnston finished his Nauset career with 136 ground balls and 74 caused turnovers.

“Liam is a versatile and relentless defender," Coach Peno said. He is very skilled and can run the field as well as lock down man to man. He chipped in offensively as well and was great in the clear game.”

Brendan Peno, Nauset

The sophomore played as a long stick middie. In 15 games, he had seven goals,16 assists, 52 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers. His efforts had him as a Cape and Islands League Atlantic All-Star. He has 11 goals 24 assists, 118 ground balls and 61 caused turnovers for his career.

“Brendan is a true two way threat at LSM," Coach Peno said. "He excels in transition and usually guards the opponent's top offensive option. He led the team in caused TOs and was second in assists, despite missing the first seven games with a broken hand.”

Hogan Anderson, Sturgis

The senior midfielder finished with 43 goals and added 10 assists for Sturgis this season, and was named a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse All Star.

"He is selfless and an incredible leader. There were a number of games where he removed himself when we were down big, instead of staying on the field and worrying about accumulating stats," Sturgis head coach Mark Bonavita said. "He plays hard and well on both ends of the field. His focus is always on the team first and, as I said, he will happily give up his own playing time if it gets the younger players on the field. He was essential in helping players develop in our practices."

Cam Houle, Sturgis

The senior goalie had 267 saves on 426 shots (62.7%), and was named a Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Honorable Mention. In the second game against Monomoy, Houle had 35 saves.

"Cam was fantastic in goal for us this year," Bonavita said. "Most of the goals Cam allowed this year came from very close range. Cam endured numerous blows to his body every game from those point-blank shots, never complained or lashed out at our young players. Cam was a stoic leader for us in games. In practices, he was instrumental in assisting players in all facets of the game. Numerous coaches commented on how good Cam was in goal."
