Aqua Pennsylvania Debuts ‘Sure Splash’ Program
Aqua Pennsylvania supports water safety with a $50,000 investment through its Essential Foundation under the Sure Splash initiative. Aqua Pennsylvania, an Essential Utilities company, is helping more families be safe and sure while they enjoy the water this summer through a $50,000 investment in community-based water safety programs. The donations were made through the company’s Essential Foundation as part of Aqua’s new Sure Splash initiative.

From U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Pennsylvania. United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced that Rafael Vega-Rodriguez, 42, of Reading, PA, was sentenced on Wednesday, July 24, by United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Leeson, Jr., to 540 months imprisonment, five years of supervised release, a $4,500 fine, and an $800 special assessment for shooting at and attempting to kill three FBI special agents.

Teen Birth Rates Decrease in Berks with Efforts of Prevention Initiative
Berks Teens announced that the latest data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows a decrease in teen birth rates for Berks County and the City of Reading. After a slight uptick in last year’s data, Berks Teens was encouraged by the improvement and their part in the effort. The numbers indicate that Berks County’s birth rate is, for the first time, better than that of the U.S. data overall, with 13.2 births per 1,000 in 2022. (see graph below.)
