Man steals car, abandons it when Grand Traverse deputies show up, steals another vehicle and rams into state police cars, sheriff says
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — A 30-year-old Roscommon man is in custody after a wild night, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office said. On July 20 at 1:43 a.m., central dispatch received a call from a Whitewater Township resident who reported a suspicious vehicle in her driveway. The caller said the driver seemed confused and was asking for directions, deputies said. The resident attempted to assist the driver, but the dark-colored vehicle left, deputies said. However, a short time later it returned. The resident was able to get the plate number, deputies said. While deputies were en route to the Whitewater Township address, central dispatch was able to determine the suspicious vehicle has been reported stolen to the Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post.
Charter bus catches fire in Missaukee Co., all passengers get off safely
MISSAUKEE COUNTY — On Monday, the Merritt Area Fire Department responded to a charter bus fire on M-55 near Stevens Road in Aetna Township. Dispatch said all 34 passengers were off the bus and that the engine compartment was involved in fire. MAFD and the Lake Missaukee Fire Department put out the fire while the Sheriff’s Office handled traffic control. Lake City Area Schools sent a school bus to get the passengers and their luggage to their destination in the Houghton Lake Area. Once the fire was out, the Grand Rapids-based charter bus was towed and debris was cleared. The incident impacted traffic for over four hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
