Was a wolverine ever seen in the town of Wolverine, Michigan?. The area now called 'Wolverine' was settled in 1874 by Jacob Shook. In 1881 it was platted and named 'Torrey' but given a post office named 'Wolverine'. Why 'Wolverine'? Because it was the state animal, with the word believed to have been originated in the 1830s.

Historic preservation grants go to 7 Michigan communities
FLAT ROCK — Seven Michigan communities have been awarded funding from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Grants totaling $250,000 will benefit local preservation and community planning goals in Charlevoix, Coldwater, Detroit, Flat Rock, Holland, Livonia and Washtenaw County.
