One putt, One's victory: One Kashima wins 70th Florida Women's Stroke Play in sudden death

One Kashima of Howey-in-the-Hills made a 12-foot birdie putt on the first hole of sudden death to beat Caroline Patterson of Jupiter in the 70th Florida State Golf Association Stroke Play Championship on Sunday at the Aberdeen Golf and Country Club in Boynton Beach.

Kashima, who was the ASUN Freshman of the Year for the University of North Florida last season, shot 71 to finish at 5-under-par 211. Patterson, who recently transferred from Tennessee to UNC-Ashville, shot 73 but birdied Nos. 16 and 18 to force the tie.

Patterson began the day tied with Lauren Clark of Orlando and Madison Moman of Palm Beach Gardens for the lead at 6-under. Clark had two double bogeys on the way to a 79 and a tie for 10th at 1-over and Moman bogeyed Nos. 12, 13 and 14 to fall out of contention. She shot 74 to tie for third.

Nancy Cox of Ponte Vedra Beach was within two shots of the lead with five holes to play but had two late bogeys and shot 74 to drop into a tie for seventh at 2-under.

Kate Bibby of St. Augustine (72) tied for fifth at 3-under and Maddie Rathjen of St. Augustine (69) tied for 10th at 1-over. Rathjen birdied Nos. 14 and 16.
