Wimauma residents say they need help recovering from floods; FEMA assistance not available there
WIMAUMA, Fla. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is going door to door in counties impacted by Debby, letting residents know they can apply for assistance. Manatee and Sarasota counties are just two of 10 receiving help, but not all areas with damage from Debby have this FEMA designation. Parts of Hillsborough County experienced flooding, but there is no FEMA assistance there.

Plaza Mexico Restaurant Bar Grill, 3635 S. Florida Ave., Lakeland: On Aug. 6, the restaurant had 11 violations, the most for any inspection during the week. There were three high-priority violations: one for raw chicken stored over vegetables inside a drawer on the cook line. One was for temperature-controlled foods being stored at greater than 41 degrees, including octopus, shrimp, scallops, tilapia, steak, chicken, pico, shredded cheese, and shredded lettuce. The last was for a dented can of sliced jalapenos. A stop-sale was issued on the jalapenos. The other two issues were corrected while the inspector was on site.
Lake County deputies apprehend suspect wanted on Utah warrants
A Polk City man was arrested for giving false information to a deputy during a traffic stop because he believed he had warrants from Utah. A deputy observed the driver of a 2000 Cadillac passenger car, later identified as 30-year-old Coaltin Justin Key, traveling south on State Road 33 around 12:21 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle did not have proper working tag lights on the rear.

A couple died after they were struck by a car in front of their young daughter while they were attempting to cross a Florida roadway, according to local officials. Hillsborough jail deputy arrested on assault, battery charges in Brandon
A detention deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Tuesday on assault charges stemming from a dispute with a neighbor in Brandon.
